Pro Tools is a great program to use for multitrack recording, editing, and mixing; although you will need a Pro Tools compatible interface.
Ableton Live is really easy to use; once you get through the basics. It also lets you do multitrack recording, like Pro Tools. However, since Pro Tools is the industry standard and found in most major studios, It may be best to use Pro Tools as your master audio program (so you can easily transport sessions from your studio to others), and use other programs like Ableton, Reason, and FL Studio to make beats/music.
