GIANTS 6, REDS 0
at Scottsdale, Ariz.
Saturday, March 20
Reds at the plate: Cincinnati had runners on the corners with nobody out and one out in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, but couldn’t get the big hit.
Giants at the plate: San Francisco jumped ahead with first-inning home runs from Edgar Renteria and Aubrey Huff. For Huff, it was a two-run poke and his third home run of the spring. Eli Whiteside added a two-run double in the sixth.Reds on the mound: Travis Wood settled down after the Giants’ three-run first, allowing one hit in two scoreless innings.Giants on the mound: Todd Wellemeyer became the first Giant to pitch five innings in a Cactus League game, surrendering four hits in five shutout frames.Worth noting: Huff, whose defense has been considered questionable at best, dove to his left to snare Juan Francisco’s sharp grounder and start a 3-6 double play that ended the fourth inning.Cactus League records: Reds 7-8; Giants 13-6Up next: The Reds will split up for two games that are both at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday. Fifth starter candidate Justin Lehr will be making his fifth outing, but first start, as the Reds host the Cubs at Goodyear Ballpark. This could be a pivotal outing for Lehr to stay in the race. Two veteran relievers having stellar springs — Francisco Cordero and Arthur Rhodes — are scheduled to follow. Carlos Silva is Chicago’s scheduled starter. In the away game vs. the A’s, No. 2 starter Johnny Cueto will pitch against Dallas Braden. Relievers Mike Lincoln and Jared Burton will also get work.Giants ace Tim Lincecum won’t receive an opportunity to improve upon his unsightly 9.39 ERA, but he will have a chance to pitch. Lincecum will start a Minor League exhibition or intrasquad game Sunday morning to stay on his regular throwing routine. The two-time Cy Young Award winner, who’s avoiding a four-hour round trip to Tucson for the Giants’ exhibition against Arizona, is 0-2 in three Cactus League starts. Right-hander Kevin Pucetas, competing for the No. 5 starting spot, will pitch the Arizona game for San Francisco. Left-hander C.J. Wilson will start for the D-backs.

The solicitor general is the “prohibitive front-runner,” wrote Tom Goldstein, a leading Supreme Court litigator and the founder of Scotusblog, in a widely read February 23 piece on his website. I would strike “prohibitive.”
give everyone thumbs down on everything? It’s absolutely annoying and unneccessary. Just because you disagree with someone on their thoughts of who should win
