Am i the only one that misses TGIF fridays on ABC?

Television is really starting to suck. What’s up with all these dam reality tv shows? I miss the old days when i would wait all week to see my favorite sitcoms. You no shows like Family Matters, Perfect Strangers, Dinosaurs, Step by Step. I guess all good things must come to an end.

Frisbee Golf – An Excellent Team Building Activity

Frisbee Golf is an excellent team building activity, and a fun group activity for children and adults alike. This form of golf is destined to maintain its cult following just like other off-beat sports like broomball or hacky sack.

Disc golf (sometimes called Frisbee Golf) is a disc game in which individual players throw a flying disc into a basket or at a target. It is similar to traditional golf and uses much of the same rules and terminology. This form of golf has no rule concerning how many discs a disc golfer can carry. Disc golfers must have a supporting point (usually a foot but can be any part of the body) on the playing surface within 30cm behind the front edge of where their previous shot landed (if inbounds) at the point their next throw is released. Disc golf doesn’t have “hazards” as defined in ball golf.

Frisbee golf has overcome its reputation as a game associated with hippies and hemp, and bases its appeal across a wide spectrum of Princeton students. The rules are simple and easy to learn. These rules also take place on a special course designed just for frisbee golf. Frisbee golf rules do not specify how you must throw your Frisbee.

Despite the fact that golf discs fly twice as far as Frisbee discs, Frisbee golf is still a most enjoyable golf-like activity, especially for youth. Played much like International Handball, Frisbee Golf is a fast-moving team-sport guided by the feathery float of a large Frisbee. Fun for old and young alike; This form of golf is as easy as finding a frisbee and a bucket or two. The sport of Frisbee golf is very popular among both men and women, and many colleges have their own teams or clubs.

Players who throw with a great deal of snap should throw over stable discs, whereas a player who doesn’t throw with a great deal of snap should throw under stable discs. Attacks are made in two ways: by throwing a disc in play into the opponents’ court in an attempt to have the disc come to rest within that court without ever having touched out-of-bounds, or by causing both discs to be touched by a player or players on the opposing team at the same time (called a “double”). Players may not run while holding the disc. Players throw a Frisbee by flicking the wrist, so that the disc spins as it sails through the air. Professional players consider around a 200-250ft shot to be an approach. Players finish a hole by hitting a target with the Frisbee.

Frisbee golf is similar to traditional golf and uses much of the same rules and terminology. It is a free way to spend time with friends, get exercise and enjoy nature, is a fun sport that just about anyone can participate in, and is a lot of fun to do. “To me, it is one of those sports people of all ages can play, whether they’re competitive or not.”

Geohot has restored Other OS to PS3

Has Sony opened Pandora’s box?

Last week on April Fools day nonetheless, Sony rolled out a firmware update (v3.21) which removed the “Other OS” feature from the original version of the PS3. This feature has already been removed from the PS3 Slim.

When Sony announced that the firmware updates would remove the “Other OS” feature, a hacker by the name of “Geohot” sprung into action and began to look for a workaround that would allow gamers to retain this function while still on the PSN (PlayStation Network). Geohot’s plan was to develop a custom firmware version cloned from the Sony version of 3.21. Much like hackers have successfully accomplished with the PSP firmware releases.

On April 7th, 2010, Geohot released a video that allegedly shows an early version of his custom firmware in action (a video of this included below). Hotz’s blog post

If A Garden Blog Falls in the Forest, Does Anybody Read It?

I know you’re out there. I can tell from the blog-o-meter that my little numbers are growing slowly but steadily. Readers from far flung places like Germany and Wetumpka, Alabama have been paying me a visit. What can I say but welcome Wetumpka! (Don’t worry I can’t see you.) And it seems I have a very small audience on a previously unknown continent called “other”.

I’m just a baby in blog years. However I know that this is supposed to be more conversation than soliloquy. And you’re kinda quiet out there. So I’d like to know so far, does this blog make you squirm or want to subscribe? Are there other topics you’d like to see covered? Is it too talky and not enough technique? Is it too short, too long, too what or just right? Is it pithy or pathetic? I’m not fishing for compliments, I just want feedback! Post a comment and let me know. I’m tough. I can take it.

Or post a comment and just say ‘Hello’.

I found out quickly that blogging is a lot more than picking out your prettiest pictures and posting your precious thoughts. You have to engage in a little self-promotion, when you’d rather just write. You have to make friends with other blogs. Then you hope they like you and link you on their blogroll of favorites, which is sort of like the internet equivalent of a friendship bracelet. Gee, what if your blog is shy? And then a horrible thought occurs; what if blogging is like high school?

Why would anybody blog in the first place. With 900,000 posts every 24 hours, how can anyone find you out there in the blogosphere? It’s like finding one special leaf on this forest floor.

I started blogging to keep my writing muscles limber. I started blogging to share my passion for plants and all things nature-y. It’s more work than I thought. More surprising, it’s more fun than I ever expected.

BU claims last-minute Elite 8 win

March 30, 2010Lady Bears clinch spot in Final Four beating Duke 51-48; With 33 blocks, Griner sets NCAA blocked-shot recordBy Chris DerrettSports writer

MEMPHIS, TENN. — In their fight for a spot in the Final Four, the Lady Bears held the lead over Duke for 45 seconds of the second half. It was all they needed, as a seemingly miraculous 51-48 comeback win punched Baylor’s ticket for San Antonio.

Brittney Griner scored the last of her 15 points with 45 seconds left, spinning and flipping the ball in for a 49-48 Baylor lead. The Blue Devils missed a 3-pointer on its next possession, and Melissa Jones sank two free throws on the Lady Bears’ end after an intentional foul. Duke’s last desperation 3-pointer did not fall, and Kelli Griffin dribbled the clock out to end the game.

“I knew I had to get the ball in the basket. I tried to get as close to the rim as I could, and make sure it went in,” Griner said.

Baylor faced a 48-42 deficit with 3:47 remaining, and with its sub-35 percent shooting on the night, the future appeared bleak. It looked worse when a Griner block became an offensive rebound for the Blue Devils, who finished with 19 offensive boards. But Duke could not convert and push the lead further.

Griner then fought for two free throws on the other end, fouling out 6-foot-4 Krystal Thomas in the process. Kimetria Hayden later drew two more driving to the rim and hit both. On the next Duke inbound play, Hayden stepped up to make what coach Kim Mulkey considered the game-changing play.

“In the last timeout, we lost a big offensive rebound,” Mulkey said about being unable to rebound Griner’s blocked ball. “I told those two freshmen (Hayden and Jordan Madden), remember that offensive rebound because it might have just cost you the game. And dang, if the one kid doesn’t come back and make the play of the game.”

Hayden lunged at Joy Cheek’s inbound pass and snatched it away from the Blue Devils. She found Jones open under the basket, and Jones nailed a one-foot jumper, pulling Baylor to within one. Jasmine Thomas missed a 3-pointer for Duke, and Griffin hauled in the rebound to set up Griner’s game-winner.

After cutting down the nets, Mulkey still could not believe that her team was Final Four bound.

“It was surreal,” Mulkey said. “I get to coach kids who believe in what we do. They allow me to get on them, they allow me to challenge them, and they never quit playing.”

For senior Morghan Medlock, who sat on the bench nauseated for much of the game, taking her piece of the net was a dream come true.

“I can’t believe it. These kids came through in the clutch, when nothing was going our way. It’s a great feeling right now,” Medlock said.

The teams began the half playing slow, ugly basketball. Duke failed to make any of its first nine shots, while Baylor was 2 of 7, getting both shots from Griner. A team averaging slightly more than 13.5 steals per game, Duke had one by the first half’s midway point and totaled two in the first 20 minutes.

Griner scored 10 of Baylor’s 21 first-half points and helped hinder Duke’s offense with four blocks, not including the ball pressure that both altered shots and forced the Blue Devils away from the basket.

Her nine-block performance increased her tournament total to 33 and broke the record for most blocked shots in a single NCAA tournament.

What's your competitive edge? Roddick meet Gordon Hayward

Andy Roddick, the American tennis star, made a phone call this week to encourage Butler’s Gordon Hayward, who was competing in the NCAA basketball tournament. Hayward said about Roddick, “He’s just such a superstar, so for him to call, that was really cool.” But perhaps Hayward could return the favor by inspiring Roddick to improve his already top flight tennis career.

Roddick made an interesting statement this week upon winning the Sony Ericsson Open. Andy’s statement, “A lot of people say the serve is fine and the rest of it’s pretty average. That’s all right. But there are a lot of guys with big serves who are pretty average, so there’s got to be some difference.

At age 27, Roddick has been developing a more diversified strategy that incorporates a full range of skills. Always a hard worker, always with powerful serves and ground strokes, Roddick is now working to become a more all-around tennis player, incorporating all types of skills and tactics into his game. Soft backhands, drop shops, slow first serves, high arching forehand shots, charging to the net more often, and other tactics to keep the opponent off-balance.

How many players have one particular talent that carries them near the top of their sport, but then never develop their full range of skills?

Gordon Hayward had some unique circumstances that caused him to develop a very complete all-around basketball game. He was a star tennis player growing up, and many of those aspects have to translate over to basketball – playing angles, footwork, arm strength, leg strength, endurance, touch shots, hand-eye coordination. Gordon also was relatively short in his youth (5′11″ as a 9th grader) and played guard much of the time … working on guard skills (dribbling, passing, etc.), until he grew to 6′8″ and learned the techniques of the ‘bigs’. Gordon is maybe not spectacular at any one skill, but his overall skill-set is what makes him one of the top college players in the nation.

So maybe Roddick can take a little inspiration from Hayward. Roddick, the all-around good guy, is now showcasing his all-around tennis skills. Develop all your skills … that’s the Gordon Hayward – Andy Roddick lesson … Versatility can be the ‘difference’ that takes you to a higher level of performance.
