Yesterday the Colorado Rockies kicked off their 2010 season with a road victory against the Milwaukee Brewers by a final score of 5-3. Ubaldo Jimenez took the mound and looked fantastic, notching 6 strikeouts, one earned run and getting the win after 6 solid innings. Carlos Gonzalez was 4 of 5 in the game and scored 2 runs from the lead off position, Ian Stewart blasted a solo home run in the 2nd and ended up with 2 RBIs to help lead the Rockies to their first win. Troy Tulowitzki and pinch hitter Ryan Spilborghs also added an RBI each in a really solid total-team effort.
I thought the team looked great, especially for the first 6 innings where the Rockies held a 4-1 lead. My major concern is the bullpen. They did manage to close the game out, and the extra “insurance” run helped, but the situation did not look too promising for an inning or two. Reliever Franklin Morales earned the save in the end, which is all that matters. Personally I think that once Huston Street is back in the bullpen, I will feel a lot better about things although I have a lot of faith in our entire staff from top to bottom.
Tonight the Rockies stay in Milwaukee and will send Greg Smith to face Randy Wolf. Smith is effectively the replacement for Jeff Francis who is still rehabilitating from an injury. Smith has looked good in spring training so far this season.

Though we hear little of it in the media, children, even young children, can be sexually harassed by their peers. A team of researchers headed by James Gruber of the University of Michigan in Dearborn and Susan Fineran of the University of Southern Maine studied several hundred middle and high school student, focusing on their experiences with or awareness of sexual harassment at school. Approximately one-third of these students reported that they had been sexually harassed. Girls were more frequently targeted for this abuse than boys, but boys were not exempt. Boys who are perceived to be sexually different from the norm are frequently teased, taunted, or physically hounded.
Predictably, sexual harassment contributes to low self-esteem, trauma symptoms, and weakened physical and mental health in children who are sexually harassed. The authors of this study rightly called on educators to do draw attention to the emotional rights and needs of children, regardless of their gender or sexual tendencies. Parents should also take a lead role in teaching their children empathy for others.
Empathy is not only a word to denote one person’s capacity to see life as others do. It means being motivated to treat others kindly because of that understanding. Empathy skills are often under-developed in children who are neglected, when personal and family stress is high, or when children feel threatened and are thus forced to turn their energies inward.
Empathy skills commonly flourish when parenting is non-authoritative and positive. Even young children can be taught that their words and actions have the power to make others happy or sad. When parents calmly explain to children the cause and effect of their choices, kids learn to focus on others. Harassment is both a slight against individuals and against society. Parenting that teaches the value of seeing life as others do and extending a helping hand to friends in need is an antidote to that social problem.
Even Kids Can Be Sexually Harassed

Is the thrill really gone in female basketball? There seems that the shine has indeed worn off of women
college basketball, but why? Why is it that UConn women is that much different than the men of UConn winning
the title beating Stanford, 53-47 . There has always been the so called battle of the sexes, but why in basketball. Don’t let this article spoil your fun if you are a diehard UConn fan. It’s just the word on the street that suggest that the thrill isgone. Say it ain’t so said the UConn fanatics. But if it is gone. UConn fanatics please standup and party like it was 1999. Old schcool reference #1. By the way UConn is still #1 in womens college basketball.

No doubt he’s the best, when it comes to golf. One of the most successful golfers in the world and current world No 1 is returning back to action after a five month break from sport at the Augusta National this week. The five month vacation attributed to marital problems and infidelity has caused great loss to the image of the onetime hero.
It all started in the November of last year after media speculations of his affair with a nightclub manager Rachel Uchtiel, a claim she denied. Soon after his accident which he took full responsibility for, media spotlight on the stars private life grew. More and more women came forth with claims of being Tiger’s mistresses after a SanDiego cocktail waitress openly confessed to having a two and a half year long affair with Tiger WoodsTiger Woods. Nearly a dozen women claimed to have been his mistresses. Media pressure grew upon the golfer who eventually confessed to infidelity and announcing a break from golf to sort out his problems.
Soon after the open confession, Gillette suspended him from their advertisements, Accenture and AT&T cut all sponsorship for Tiger assessing that he was no longer fit to be a role model whilst Taguer stood by after initial uncertainty. It is estimated that shareholder loss due to the incident has been in the range of 5-12million dollars. Most of Woods sponsors had dropped him from their sponsorship owing to a loss of credibility of the player. Woods apologized in a televised speech in February admitting to have hurt his family, friends and fans and promised to come clean and return to his faith of Buddhism from which he said he had gone astray.
Tiger Woods will be returning to golf this week as he plays the Augusta National. The four time Augusta champion was recently chastened by Augusta chairman Billy Pane for failing to live up to expectations as a role model. There are reports in the media that Nike plans to air a commercial by Tiger Woods on the eve of his return to competitive golf. Nike has however, declined to comment on its plans.
Fans eagerly await the return of the champion to golf with wide ranging speculations on his form after the long break. Let’s just hope that Tiger doesn’t become a disappointment for anyone this time.

I have really been feeling like things have been coming together financially lately. Especially since I set my credit cards up on balance liquidation programs with Chase and Bank of America.
As most of you know I have endless praise for what Chase offered me in terms of a debt reduction program. My interest rates were dropped to 0.00%, over the limit and late fees were waived. and over $9,000 in interest was deducted from my total balances.
But now it seems things have gone backwards. Yesterday I learned my car needed new tires, which wiped out out my newly started emergency fund. I am getting the tires tomorrow, but today I just received to medical bills totalling over $6,000.
I don’t know where these bills have been since I haven’t seen them or why my wife hasn’t told me about them. I guess she figured I had enough on my plate, but this kind of undoes everything we just started and makes our total debt to pay back even more. Not sure why the insurance companies didn’t pay them. My wife will be working on the why later today.
So for all the steps forward we have taken I feel like we just took three back. It just wears me out. Then I just start freaking out out telling my wife we need to spend less and get that budget in order. I kind of tend to over do it when I get stressed out, but I want this over as soon as possible. Even though we are working on a 5 year plan to get out of debt.
I refuse to file bankruptcy and I am working on everything possible to prevent that from happening. Sometimes though it just seems like you can’t get ahead.

April is shaping up to be a busy month for Apple users. Early adopters have barely had time to get their iPads through the first recharge cycle, and Apple’s already got something new lined up for us. The company finally announced the event that will serve as the formal introduction to version 4 of the iPhone operating system, taking place this Thursday.
Though Apple has a tendency to do all-on-one-day product announcements and releases, this iPhone OS 4 event looks like it will be strictly an informational session, with the software release likely for early this summer.
What’s on the menu for OS 4? We’ve heard a lot of talk about multitasking, with a solution finally being put in place to let you switch between running apps without having to back out of any first. Hand in hand with that would be some sort of clipboard, or at least a mechanism to let simultaneously-running apps to talk back and forth with each other. That might be more of a pipe dream, as part of what contributes to the iPhone’s security is the isolated environment in which apps run.
The Apple event is set to kick off at what will be 1PM Eastern, so check in with Obsessable Thursday afternoon for the skinny on Apple’s announcement.
